“Greetings for the New Year 2024” Happy New Year I pray that this year will be a wonderful one for every one of you. I recall last year’s event in Sibata in the following. 1. Anniversary of company’s establishment in Soka City , Saitama for 60 years 2. Anniversary of company’s establishment in Iida City, Nagano for 50 years 3. Anniversary of company’s establishment in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for 50 years Masatoshi Shibata President & CEO Last year was memorial year for 3 anniversaries . We have safely reached each milestone, and we express our deep gratitude for your support in making it possible. Now, I understand that our land in Soka City was introduced by Mr. Dai Ibuka, the President of Sony Corporation, back in 1961. Mr. Ibuka asked us to collaborate on creating the world’s smallest handheld portable television. In response, Shibata Sony Glass Co., Ltd. was established in Soka City with the following ownership distribution: Shibata Chemical APP. MFG. CO.27.5%, Shibata Hario Glass Co., Ltd. 27.5%, and Sony Corporation 45%, with the first president being Mr. Tadashi Shibata . At that time, Shibata Chemical APP. MFG.CO. started with 3,500 tsubo, Shibata Hario Glass Co., Ltd. with 1,500 tsubo, and Shibata Sony Glass Co., Ltd. with 5,000 tsubo.” (Note: “tsubo” is a unit of measurement in Japan, approximately 3.3 square meters.) The Iida　City, Nagano Prefecture, is embraced by the Southern Alps, offering a wonderful environment blessed with clean air and water.　 In 1973, we received a proposal from our supplier at the time, Kyowa Kogyo Co., Ltd., and that marked the beginning of our 100% M&A (merger and acquisition) The Kaohsiung, Taiwan, had its starting point in 1971 when Mr. Tsai Huang-Shan, the General Manager of Dow Chemical Taiwan, visited our then-President Harumichi Shibata in Ueno, bringing defective products from our company. Looking back on this history, the encounters and connections between people truly embody the concept of ‘ichi-go ichi-e’-a once-in-a-lifetime meeting. It reminds us of the profound importance of human connections for both individuals and companies. Furthermore, in May of last year, we were honored to receive the industry’s first certification as a ‘DX Certified Company’ designated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In October, we completed the construction of the ‘R&D Building’ and the ‘SC Building’ (Service Center Building) within the premises of our Soka headquarters factory. Starting from January this year, both buildings are fully operational. For details about the new buildings, please refer here. In 2024, we intend to further strengthen DX, R&D, and after-sales services, cherishing encounters and connections as we strive to pioneer a new era.
